Transform Your Home With A New Color Palette
Seven years ago, I had a date with destiny when one of my colleagues invited me to visit her new South Carolina home in Market Common, Myrtle Beach. It is a convenient two-hour ride away from the College of Charleston where my daughter Lindsay had decided to attend.
Shortly after selling my retail business in Ct. I happily settled into my new South Carolina home with that distinct light pink exterior. It closely resembles the colors and Architecture typical of Charleston homes.
As my design business took off, it was important that I was able to source companies that offered striking palettes of beautiful coastal colors that would appeal to South Carolina clients.
Color And Your Mood
Much has been written about the use of colors and the psychological impact it has on our mental state. Colors, along with their shade and tint are closely linked with deep emotions. Warm colors like Red, Orange & Yellow evoke feelings of happiness, strength and optimism, while Cool colors such as Green, Blue & Purple bring in feelings of being calm and relaxed. We all have specific color preferences, and it’s my job to find out what palette my clients desire most to take their home from dull to happy & harmonious.
Sometimes, the colors you might think are your favorite, simply do not work well covering an entire space. The way a room appears in the daylight is a good way to judge any considered paint selections.
Where Personality And The Way You Want To Feel In Your Space Are Combined
Your space should reflect your personality and color preferences as well as tell a story about who you are and how you want to feel in the home. More importantly, my goal is to bring in colors that evoke feelings of happiness, harmony and love. My approach is to apply soft colors to the walls and larger items such as upholstery and bring in stronger pops of color in the accessories like pillows and rugs.
Smaller items like pillows, throw blankets, and even throw carpets can be changed out seasonally while larger items like tv stands, coffee tables, sofas, accent chairs, lounges, and bookcases, etc. It’s great if these are more neutral, since they will tend to stay in the rotation much longer. Using this thought process grants a more cost-effective means of staying current with the season, while still maintaining the overall atmosphere of your living spaces.
