The Ultimate Kitchen Remodeling Checklist

The Ultimate Kitchen Remodeling Check List.

I just finished a kitchen living remodel that surpassed everyone’s goals and wanted to share the deets with you.  My client purchased her home a year ago and was going through a change of life, moving from Virginia to a small community near the ocean called Surfside Beach.  First design cue she gave to me was that she wanted to go from dark & dated, to modern and light.

We used her dark to light inspiration, and a few key categories of construction pinch points in order to accomplish the final installation.

Walls.
Early preparations including the taking down of the wallpaper and painting the lower paneling was the first key, after all, the room itself starts with the walls that hold it.

Floors.
New vinyl flooring though out the kitchen, hallway and living areas in a brown-grey plank warmed up the space, paring that against white painted cabinetry, really made the flooring pop.

Cabinetry & Counters.
In this kitchen, we started by taking out the Soffit Cabinets and adding a Statuario Quartz large island with white and taupe veins, which entirely changed the look and function of the preparation space,  giving it a clean, stylishly updated look.

Appliances.
New stainless-steel appliances and a down draft were added and vented under the house for easy cooking.

The Process.

  1. I have a specific process that works really well when starting any project.

    1. Picture’s and dimensions are taken at the very first visit.
    2. My list is made with the client’s budget goals and a wish list in mind.
    3. Next the floor plan is created, and the material options are presented.
    4. Once the floor plan is approved along with finish selections, my cabinet company provides drawings and details for each cabinet on the floor plan.
    5. When the budget is approved, a timeline is presented, demolition starts and the transformation begins.

Style Trends That We See Most.

Some trends that are popular now are different color cabinets from the top to the bottom or island.  Using Quartz for the Island and another material for the surround makes the whole atmosphere of the kitchen really pop visually.

Quartz countertops is a popular option due to easy maintenance and a clean look.  Floating or open shelves are also popular and help can cut costs in your budget.

The hardware & the backsplash is the most important material decision and makes the largest impact.  It helps to wait until the countertops are installed to make this final decision.

It’s so rewarding at the end of the project when your client is happy and transformed by the new space.  Looking back and seeing the before and after pictures, I truly believe that when you love your home it projects that positivity into your life every day.
