Discovering Modern Organic

Date

The old world seamlessly infused with the new.

Modern.

High functioning “modern” features in a building are meant to serve the contemporary human to ensure function, ergonomics and durability. The beauty of the modernistic style can not be understated featuring minimalism and high function as it’s hallmarks.

As di vinci famously scribed, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and in this statement he points to an undeniable grace in very simple yet effective things.

Many homes are well suited to get a streamlined and modern redesign, top to bottom. When a home is updated and modernized, it becomes a greater tool for its distinctive inhabitants.
The only negative we often hear is that when a treatment is perhaps too modern, it may tend to feel too sterile and plain. Leaving little to build warmth and comfort. This is where some homeowners part ways with the style, in favor of other overall trends.

Organic.

Calling something “Organic” as it relates to a style or theme, has a lot of meanings.

If we take the concept to its roots–we can explain it generally as a down-to-earth, “naturalistic” treatment motif.  This can mean many things and be interpreted with a great variety of options within your space.

Organic style is so very popular in our modern world, as a sort of resistance to things that are overly structured and modern. This resistance is driven by nostalgia and a yearning to hold onto the memory of past eras.  An old photograph, a piece of old wood, some kind of cool old iron work, a great statue or piece of an old building, wide board flooring, or wall paneling, old wall paper, etc.  There are countless other tenants of this style that are popular for a lot of great reasons.

Blending Advice.

As interior design consultants working in the homes of a great variety of personalities, we don’t specifically force feed either style into anyone home. Instead, we feature a Layered approach to customization. The fact that these two styles are across the aisle from one another but fit so well together makes our work exciting and innovative at every project.

Furniture and Lighting.

Finding the right furniture is also a really important part of giving a space an “Modern Organic” style. No one wants to sit on a piece of old wood–think about the splinters–they want to sit on luxurious furniture.

Selecting the seating in a space is probably one of the most important decisions one can make. The key is to blend style & comfort that fits your budget.

Flooring and Carpeting.

Finding the right ground covering throughout your home sets the tone. It has to do with how you live your life for comfort and durability.  Concrete, ceramic, wood, carpet or a composite. Think about how you want to feel as you walk the lay of your space.

Wall Treatments and Plants.

The art work you select, is reserved for the style, color and mood you want to project throughout your home. You might find that a modern painting or a collage of family photos are giving your space the right look. Tending today, less is more. It is not necessary to fill every wall. It is more successful if time and patience has gone into completing a room with right amount of items and color. Often Carefully selected plants are bringing the space to life. Pedestals, shelves, tables and plants, can be the best organic friends, if placed in the right location.

We ask for your input and considerations at all times in the process of selections and planning.

Some homeowners might be stuck with the choice of which treatment is right for the entire home or for just one area. Each room can have their own naturally different approach, and or they could all be synchronized to work as an overarching tempering to the entire home.
