This adorable little country cape in Conway SC had its original kitchen built in the 1960s. We took the interior down to the framing and rebuilt the entire space from floor to ceiling.

Down To The Studs.

Every good remodel starts with design drafting and structural alterations. In this case we started by taking down the peninsula separating the family room from the kitchen. Opening up the entire floor plan and then reimagining it for the new vision. Next we eliminated the column wall blocking off the seating from the cabinets to make it much more open & efficient. What was a cabinet based Island is now an open island with plenty of cabinetry down below, and bar top seating all around. The four seats this family needs are incorporated at the end of the island in a circular shape. With extra storage incorporated into a tall cabinet to contain a wifi station and all the boys craft projects.

Cabinets and Flooring.

White shaker cabinets were brought in for the perimeter and a blue Island makes this space open, bright and colorful. The original hardwood floors were able to be preserved with tender love and sanding from my wonderful contractor Daniel Sanders.

Counters and Tiling.

For the countertops and center island “Quartzite” was the first choice selection for a natural light stone look. The backsplash was the final and very important last step to be selected and run all the way behind the hood and floating wood shelves. The pattern was carefully cut and installed in a herringbone pattern in natural 3 x 6 white tile with gray medium grout color. Look at how a carefully styled back splash takes the design of the kitchen to that next level of detail.

Extra Planning.

The brown wood shelves keep the space open and convenient for Shelly to pull down the dishes she uses on a daily basis for her two busy boys. The choice of the light fixtures over the island gives off a simple glass farmhouse vibe to match her white porcelain farm style sink.

It was a pleasure to work with Shelly on this updated farmhouse style kitchen and give this beautiful home charm, function, style and added equity. I hope this family has many happy years in the sweet Southern town of Conway SC.
