3 Important Trends From The Fall High Point 2020 Designer Show

Every year I attend the Fall Highpoint show, an industry only show where Designers can see the freshest trends for the next season.  This year has been incredibly unique, and even with Covid protocols in place, I was not to be deterred from attending.

First Hand Experience…

With a goal in mind this year, I attended in person, in order to search for current client’s furnishing requests and to stay updated on the latest trends and this year’s market. The displays, the environments and the whole show itself did not disappoint.

The large showrooms where buzzing with appointments and an influx of new furniture and accessories were on display.  Thankfully, our industry is booming and extremely busy with orders,  if you are a successful Designer—the fact that everyone is at home has folks envisioning dramatic changes to their living spaces, inspired to remake them for the natural  increase in daily use.

Home Is Where Your Office Is…

Many people are spending money on improving their house and adding home offices rather than travelling back and forth to work.

Nationwide, we’re seeing sizable masses of families moving from large cities to the suburbs, and there has been an influx of people still moving to Myrtle Beach due to lower taxes and great weather.

What’s Trending…

I came away with three interesting trends for Fall 2020.

1. The first is multi-purpose ottoman use.

It seems clients are always asking for a combination of coffee table and ottoman to put in front of their sofa. Clients want the use of both in one form.  It was obvious that manufacturers were listening to consumers and solved the problem by creating many multi-use ottomans.  Notice the photos in our little gallery on this post

2. The second trend was the use of macrame.
This was evident in light fixtures and wall hangings.  Yes, its true, everything comes back full circle eventually.  I clearly remember this trend was around in the sixty’s as a boho look.  My mother had some exquisite macrame she was proud of making and then displaying in our living room.  Finally, it’s back in full force and was displayed in many of the showrooms I went to visit.

3. The last trend is not unique but was very apparent in many of the showrooms. Dining tables were displayed with head chairs that had a different style than the rest of the chairs around a dining table. It makes the space more interesting and eclectic.

Summary…

I left Highpoint inspired & energized with lots of amazing design ideas for my clients.  I am excited for the Fall & Winter season of design.  Until Spring Highpoint.
